1. Don't Panic. most people will not be affected by the Ransomeware if they follow the advice below.

2. Make sure your computer updates have been done, they will normally run automatically for my customers and so you should be protected.

3. Do not click on any links on webpages unless you are 100% sure they are OK. If something automatically opens a link press and hold your power button for 6 seconds until power stops - do not "shutdown" or "Restart".

4. Do not click on links in emails - even if you think you know the person who sent them, (their email may be sending fake messages), check with the person who sent it first.

5. Do not use Computers with Windows XP or Windows Vista which are obsolete now and no longer receiving updates. They also use old versions of security software and browsers leaving you vulnerable.

6. Back up Now!

Picture of Linda

Hello, my name is Linda Dunwell.

I have been fixing desktop and laptop computers, initially for family and friends and then for a small CAD/CAM company, for about (WOW!) 30 years. I gained valuable lessons working in PCWorld which suggested I could do a much better job by working for myself.

Computing By Inches was born in 2007, allowing me to prove there was a better way to help customers, and since then I have been resolving problems, giving advice and training on lots of different aspects of computing for private individuals and small businesses.

With all that experience I can turn my hand to almost anything computer related, and I am also willing to learn anything new that might help you more.

You are welcome to watch everything I do, often learning new ways to use the computer this way, and I will describe everything without trying to confuse you with jargon.

Many of my customers think of me as their "Computer Guru".

Check out my full list of services in the link above. In brief....

  • Local repair service - In your home or business
  • Malware identification and removal, making slow computers run faster and protecting your data
  • Advice on buying, setting up or using a new computer, printer, mobile phones, tablets etc.
  • Training to help you use your computer and everything connected with them.
  • Broadband problems resolved - diagnosis and repairs in your home, and I will call your ISP to arrange repairs if the problem is outside your home.

Please call me on 07717217773 for help or advice.

and don't forget to leave a message, with your phone number, if I cannot answer right away - I might be driving or out of signal area but I will get back to you as soon as I can
